Colorist Tip #19 – Prod Design II

Know you’re going to be grading a movie that’s still in pre-production? Go ahead and talk with them about the look & production design. If they have an idea of what look they want, they can make your job as a colorist easier with good production design.

A lot of directors and DPs discuss and have an idea of what final look they want even in pre-production. If you’ve already been picked to grade a project, and have the chance to talk to the director and DP about what look they might want, you might be able to have them choose production design that will compliment the look they want, saving you a lot of time, them a lot of money, and making the end product that much better. Win-win!
